28012012. My love for Japanese cuisine is a permanent one and it is further enhanced by any Jap-fusion dishes. After a day browsing through the wet market of St Lawrence, we decided to meet up with Bo and Jo for dinner. After my long absence from the Japanese food scene, I returned to action this week by trying out a 3-month old izakaya called Don Don Izakaya. More of a mingling joint with hostesses as enthusiastic as ever than a food-to-feel-you-up joint. The hostesses would probably end the day voiceless but truly, a Japanese hospitality. P.s, I was over at Lin's at 12am and she insisted the major resemblance of the peanut and a bird. For reals, it looks like a bird.

28012012. Somewhat an ''off-day'' from all things school related. Kev and I decided to start the day a lil early and head over to St Lawrence Market for lunch and some raw meat. Got our mouths greasy with grilled swordfish sandwich and haddock & chips from Buster's Sea Cove, compared prices of truffle oils, tasted mustard at this 20 plus mustards selling store and a bit of a heaven at a coffee-tea speciality store. After St Lawrence, we strolled along a rather depressing park to make use of our $10 parking and spent some time at Winners and an old school bookstore before meeting up with the rest for tapas style Jap. P.s, I was pretty convinced that Kev was freaked out by that statue I loved but he refused to let me buy. Ciao!

My pre-CNY schedule mainly consists of a dinner with the Malaysian-Singaporean club/gambling sesh at Joleena's on the 20th, dinner at Richmond Hill with Kev, Brian, Bo and Lin on the 21st and hotpot at David's tonight. Truth is, CNY hasn't really been my thing apart from catching up with the extended families and getting loaded for a very short period of time. As what I recalled, Chinese New Year used to be one of my favourite holiday season apart from Christmas during my childhood years. Reminiscing the joy of playing sparklers and staining my granny's yard with that 'poppy' thingy that hurts you like a bitch, definitely one of the memorable moments with the cousins. I think one of the best thing that happened to me these two days was able to crack a joke about something that the new me would care less of, unlike the old fragile me. As I said 2012 would be different. When you think a certain prestigious high school would produce alumni that are more open-minded, well think again. Perhaps it's a certain place that they are from that made them as narrow-minded as fuck because as far as I know, that's the only place you would be able to find people with no sense of conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness to experience. In fact they have no sense of identity at all, to a point of childish. When you think about it, it's rather sad and I pity them. We had a major feasting session for the past week. It's pretty much a trade-off for the holidays. Good food on a holiday equally means packing on the pounds. Among them were unorthodox portions of pastas twice in a week at Anton's, six no-tax cupcakes and spicy akaoni ramen at Benkei. However, the 1st of January, 2012 marks the 1st day of a healthy diet with a cut-down on sugar and carbs. Can't wait for me to get my workout mojo on when I'm back at Toronto on the 5th. I had finally come to terms that it's a jungle out there and you couldn't really rely on anyone except for some of course. Sure they seem nice but for some, there's always motives behind that vessel of theirs. They will bash you, criticize your passion or hurt your feelings, maybe unintentionally. All in all, I would still live my life to the fullest in pursuing my dreams and passion. Yeah, I might not get straight As all the time and my daddy can't go around showing her daughter off in terms of grades, but I know what my priorities are and there's a will in me to work hard and succeed. I admit my parents spoil me with material stuff apart from showering me with undeniable love, but I know one day I would repay them the same. Now for resolutions...

Keep my deal with kev. Conditions being the malls are off-limits for awhile as well as online sites.

Kev went to take pictures of the world's 1st Starbucks at Pike St. while I spent quite awhile at Watson Kennedy smelling countless candles and sampling Diptyque. Apart from having my last chai for the day to-go from Fonte, we drove around Magnolia and stopped by Seattle Premium Outlets before heading back to Canada. P.s, US$ 20 gets you ¾ tank gas, so cheap!

21122011. Drove up to Whistler and got awed by the scenery en route to the mountains. Instead of the norm of snowboarding/skiing, a decision was made to go for the Scandinavian bath and Swedish massage instead. No doubt a very relaxing sesh, the outdoor hotbaths in -4˚C as well as the Eucalyptus steam bath practically made my day apart from the massage. Louis, however went snowboarding with his new bright blue snowboard. Whistler village at dusk was brightly lit with very pretty lights. Perhaps due to the festive seasons? One of the foremost ski-resorts in the world, Whistler was also the host mountain resorts for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Cool.
p.s: and..my A.Wang's finally here. Psyched. Can't wait to start using it.

16122011. Vancouver definitely has more Japanese than Toronto by the amount of j-restaurants opened by actual Japanese, not Chinese/Koreans and oohh-mmm-geee they have japadog! An unorthodox version of the normal hotdog but 10 times better. Lunch was at a local ramen venture which had a pretty similar concept as Ajisen Ramen. The sudden downpour after a full meal led us to take shelter at Pacific Center/ Holts at Granville-Robson.

27112011. Was doing work halfway and then there was music coming from down below. Apparently it was some tree lighting event and I just had to check it out. The Christmas tree wasn't that pretty though and it wasn't cold enough for the ice-skating rink to open. Fail, lol. What got me all hyped up quietly was that PINK mobile cupcake shop, simply a PINK truck selling cupcakes. Could have gotten more but was low on cash and don't think they accept debit. Anyway, spent about half and hour or so in the cold, munching my cupcake away, sitting somewhere in the middle of the rink, watching local artistes performing from far.

Totally psyched that the case assignment is finally done after much procrastination and 'breaks'. One more economics essay due and then finals, I'm done for the term. Well technically the term ends this coming Monday but with the essays and all, it doesn't seem like it's the end of the term. Can't wait for the 13/12 and 15/12. For the former, I'm done with my finals, the latter means Vancouver ! Spending most of my winter break in Vancouver, bunking at Louis's and maybe a day trip or 2 to Seattle seems pretty sweet minus the rainy weather. Ahhh wish I could join Hennis and Junn at sunny Florida, but oh well, what's done is done 'cause I had gotten my tickets. OMG I can't wait for Christmas, practically my most favourite season in the WORLD. C'mon who doesn't love Christmas, the presents, the lights on the trees, Christmas carols and the comfort food? I know I certainly do, fosure.

19112011. Before all that Versace for H&M craze, it was just Kev & I walking around UofT and Bloor before meeting up with a few others for rather expensive Malaysian dinner. Had eggs benedict for brunch at a cozy cafe called By The Way. Contemplate whether to admit ourselves into 2 museums ( fyi one of them is about shoes), read about Frank Gehry in the museum's bookstore, tea time at a middle eastern/greek-ish cafe opposite the museum and I just had to take a shot of the brutalist Robarts Library. Probably the ugliest among UT's libraries and it looks so depressing, the leafless trees add to the latter.

15112011. An impromptu dinner with Laura at Seoul House and some window-shopping/bubbletea before a late night movie date with Kev. I highly recommend Anoymous. At one point we went ''OMG! Whuuut. The queen and her son, and they had a son. Incest !'' Brilliant script though, or maybe I'm just bias. Also, the days of me taking loads of chili are practically long gone no matter how much I adore the spice. That pair of burgundy stilettos from Zara on the other hand, gorgeous ain't it? Did not get it, but just had to try it. Boys, don't try to make sense with it. Ciao !

19112011. The thought of waking up at the crack of dawn to take place in the never ending lines outside of H&M wasn’t particularly appealing. (Jimmy Choo for H&M 2 years ago was Kev's ~~worst~~ nightmare) Surprised, there were still a few pieces left in the flagship store. The crowd during the evening was still as mad. I remembered holding this black top (last of its kind in the store) and countless girls came up to me to enquire about it as though they were gonna hunt me down. Decided not to get the top, then saw one of the girls holding it while at the cashiers. ~~Shit I should have gotten it~~. I bet she didn't even make a trip to the fitting room and just went right to the cashiers. Thank god for the 1-month return policy huh?

Just a random Thursday with no classes. Kev and I decided to head all the way up to Yorkdale for some retail therapy. Well, it's more like Topshop recently opened it's 1st Canada store there (I know right) and I was dying to check it out 'cause for obvious reasons, I missed Topshop so much. The shoe sec was heaven but B#&!^#&^! as usual god gave me a common-size feet and the sizes were all gone. Brilliant.

Yesterday was 01112011 and yes I did make a wish at 11pm-ish. I don't know about you but it was a crap day for some. Shall not elaborate more. I'm not a superstitious person but as superstitious as it sounds, I wouldn't pass on a good ol' wish. Anyway, winter is definitely on her way. I was practically freezing my ass off today on the way to meet up with Laura and Kim for Korean lunch. Served me right that I wore flats.

HATE my hair in the morning, well more like I hate it and I need to get a haircut. Months later, I'm still indecisive whether to go really short or go really long. Blah! Short hair makes me feel naked and long hair... do I look like I'm that kinda person that would spent hours doing my hair ? Even my bff Junn knows I like my hair wild ☺. OR MAYBE, I'll just go above the shoulders and then curl it but my mom strictly forbids me to perm my hair as it'll damage my hair even more. Uuugh HAIR!

A very impromptu decision of making a pizza dough at 10pm the day before. That's how we roll. Getting things done in the middle of the night. Back from Lin's then started prep work all alone while Kev's still in school. Got my finger cut as well, stupid knife. I must say rolling out the dough takes up a lot of effort or was it just my dough. It seemed to have some sort of resistance, incredible one in fact. Anyway, green pizza consisted of green pesto, caramelized onions, sauteed leeks, raw egg and mozarella. Red one has tomato paste, ham, onions, mushroom and mozarella. In short, onions overload !

I wouldn't call it an addiction but I had been ''addicted'' to the scents of Voluspa & Paddywax candles lately. It smells pretty damn good. Can't wait to get my hands on those Diptyque ones at Holts. They smell even better. The truth is the ventilation system in my condo suite ain't that good, cooking would practically stink up the whole place. Hence, the candles. Why not air fresheners? Well they are air fresheners and they smell like they are meant to be in the loo. The meal above was all me. Capellini aglio olio, bacon wrapped pesto-stuffed chicken & caramelized onions. I was actually proud of that though that chicken was ~~slightly~~ overcooked. On the bright side, I have 2 of my favourite ingredients, onions and pesto. Love the fact that I can eat poached eggs and pesto on toast everyday and wouldn't get sick of it. Ciao !

Today was one hell of a bad day. School and hormones. Spending $200+ for an economics textbook definitely did not help the situation. Till this day I still can't accept the fact that an economics textbook cost more than a smartphone with contract. Ridiculous. My all-black ensemble for the day pretty much described my mood. I guess the only good thing that came out of today was my vintage Coach bag that I bid and won on ebay 2 weeks ago. It's finally here and looking pretty as ever. Pretty good deal for a fact that it's retailed at $300 and I paid only $70 including shipping. Pre-owned but 'meh', it fits the vibe of the classic collection.

This week and last week were pretty much full on sloppiness. Track pants, hoodies, hair-up and a make-up free face, midterms do that to you. It felt so good when I'm finally able to dress up a lil.

Good ol' homemade rösti in the midst of studying for midterms. Such a sinful meal with the carbs, butter and all, but since I had been taking mushy food for the past week, carbs it is.

An insight of the week. I was feeling nauseous and tired, my throat hurts (still does) like a bitch. The school physician gave me a blood test and diagnosed me with mono. This explains the swollen lymph nodes, swollen tonsils, fatigue, nausea and nearly 48 hours of sleep. Basically, I'm surviving on oatmeal, soup, shakes and mushy bananas. The doc even recommended me baby food. Yes, BABY food. Midterms' in a week and things aren't looking pretty good. Thank god Kev's around to tolerate my needs ! I know how stubborn I will get when I'm sick. Love you.

11092011. It's hard to convey thoughts into words when you're in hunger. This is pretty much the case here. I would say approximately 15 minutes more until I'm able to glaze my oven baked chicken with maple syrup. It's taking forever in the oven. Anyway, yesterday's plans was to buy TIFF tickets (if we were in luck, we were able to catch Ryan Gosling in Drive or even better, see him on the red carpet) but we got lost. So much for good sense of direction.

Finally after much procrastination, I got all my makeup sorted out in an organized manner. They used to be all bundled up in my makeup pouch, two makeup pouches in fact. All those dried up mascaras, empty Kiehl's lipbalm tubes and dried up nail lacquers went straight to the bin. The others were moved to their new permanent space, $1 Dollarama glassware. I love how Dollarama sells decent glassware for 1 dollar. On a I-don't-care-you-don't-care note, Zara just opened 10-walking-minutes away from my place, making life pretty much a breeze in terms of returning items within a month.
